Writeup/Notes:
Wow, what a lot of fun this event was.
Weather was perfect, SM ran last, so it was nice and warm for all of our tires - the car felt absolutely fantastic with its new parts.
As you can see from the results, I ended up third for the race, which is fine. Some random guy from X-class ran SM today, for some reason. Mike and I had just finished celebrating our 1-2 position, when this Neon from out of nowhere scores a clean time quicker than us. Odd.
After the second runs, I was leading, but a cone at the very end of the last slalom is all that kept me from being the fastest today in SM. So, I am heartened - the car is going to be very quick!
The new JIC setup is astonishing. I kept braking later and later for turns, since I could never brake and turn as hard with the AGX's. The car is so stable with the new shocks, it's amazing. I can't wait to learn this setup a bit better. As promised, I can come out of corners much better, and get on the gas much sooner than before. The car is no longer bouncing on the bumpstops when I'm in long turns. However, it's still making enough power to easily fry the tires in second gear, so the Quaifes will go in at some point this season to help put the power down.
There was even a bit of water running near one of our turn-in points, and I drove right over it with the power on, and the car didn't even step out. Amazing.
Despite my worries, the new intake manifold caused no trouble at all - I couldn't even tell that it was any different than stock. Now that all my intake leaks are fixed up, and my boost controller is fixed, I'm seeing 20psi (my set pressure) at about 3300 RPM in second gear. For a 20g sized turbo (supposedly), that is fantastic spool.
Ran the tire pressures at 37/33, as I had with the AGX's. Still not having any roll over problems - I will have to play with those next time. The car pushed the tiniest bit in slower speed stuff, but that could be attributed to over-driving fairly easily, I think. That tradeoff is definitely worth how much quicker I could drive in the remainder of the course.
So, the new parts were great, and the car is really feeling great at this point. I'm definitely glad I spent the time to get it all set up, so that I can run a more consistent car this season.
