Looking from the results, must have been a pretty good day, huh? Wow, a 1st place finish against some good
competition!
Well, yes and no. Mostly no, I'm afraid. Due to the resealing of part of the lot at the World Arena, the surface
was quite slick, especially early in the morning. Being the 6th car out, and the first with any kind of
horsepower, I didn't have much preknowledge of this. After a long-wheelspinning launch, and very bad push
through the first two turns, I realized that things were bad - no stick on the black stuff at all.
There was a slight downhill, off-camber curve at the entrance to the straight going across the two lots.
Knowing how little grip was, I went into it what I thought was slowly, with no brakes or gas, and the car still
spun - badly. It slid into a curb. As of this writing, I still haven't gotten everything sorted out, but so
far the tally is one wheel, all the RHS tie-rods, one shock top-hat, and a wheel bearing.
So, I jumped in Mike's M3 and ended up winning the class with my 2 other runs. Who would have thought it? It
was also nice to not be too far off his times in his car - makes me feel better about my own driving abilities to
match Mike so closely.
