Writeup/Notes:
This is the weekend that for me, it finally all came together - driving, car setup, everything.
After talking to Gary at Wendover and getting my new 17 inch wheels, I bought Mike Minear's V710 Kumhos to use for
nationals. I also lowered the car a lot more, about 0.5" in front, and nearly 1.5" in the rear. I dialed camber out in front, and with the lower rear, was finally able to get to about -1.6 in the rear. The difference with the
new setup, and the new tires, was amazing.
First, the grip of the V710's was awesome. The launch was much better, the braking much better, and mid-corner grip was
WAY up from the Ecsta. Further, the turn-in was lightning-fast in comparison.
Additionally, with the car lower in the rear, the car was finally trust-able on turn-in. You could wait until the proper time to turn in, and turn in nice and hard, rather than having to ease into turn in, worrying about the rear end coming loose. Now, it only does it when *really* jerked, or when you're on the power hard on purpose - the car turned from a relatively hard to drive car - albeit fun - to a total sweetheart. Perfect timing! The new wider wheels must also be helping with everything, getting lots of rubber to the ground. What fun to have setup changes work so right!
Saturday at the BMW event, I had FTD among all those cars, which was my first ever FTD - YAY!
Sunday with the SCCA Crowd, I had the third highest PAX time - 990 - being out PAX'ed by only John Ames, Bob Tunnell, and Paul Leonard (also on V710's). This was the first time I've outrun ALL of my benchmarks - Mike, Jay Yost, Jeff Lundgren, and even John Ames. Phew!
My PAX score was 990 points, which is now my all-time best - and is going to be hard to do again, I think - yikes!
For the weekend, I stayed down in Colorado Springs with Mike and Doug, and it rained like hell starting around 4:00 both afternoons - pretty impressive weather in the shadow of Pike's Peak. All in all, it was the most satisfying, and successful racing weekend I think I've ever had. What a great place to be going into Solo2 nationals. Maybe there's a trophy in it for us now??
Unfortunately, no video or anything from this weekend - Lizzy had the camera again.

- 315/37-17 Ecsta V710's
- 17x11, 17x11.5 black-center CCW's
