Deja vu`
After a long, frustrating winter, I finally got to head out to play with my car at the IMI kart track. The last
event I got to do was the BMW championship a-WAY back when.
The primary goal for the day was to do some shakedown of the car, followed by some testing with the various
Nik-Link combinations, and 200 vs 250# front springs. All runs were done with a set of R25's that Bob
gave me back at the end of 2006.
Initial shakedown was pretty much 100% problem-free, so Grant and I went to testing quickly. Initial runs
were with the small nik bar, and 250# fronts. The car's balance was quite good overall, with some understeer
in the sweepers. We took tire temps, despite the tires definitely being more worn on their inside edges:
| LF | RF |
| LR | RR |
| 100 | 129 | 135 | 112 | 119 | 95 |
| 107 | 134 | 140 | 138 | 139 | 121 |
For the second session, we disconnected the front swaybar. I was hard-pressed to tell much difference.
| LF | RF |
| LR | RR |
| 114 | 147 | 143 | 142 | 141 | 107 |
| 123 | 142 | 150 | 155 | 161 | 126 |
Third session, we moved to a 200# front spring, with no front Nik bar:
| LF | RF |
| LR | RR |
| 106 | 126 | 126 | 127 | 120 | 95 |
| 116 | 126 | 136 | 133 | 140 | 113 |
| LF | RF |
| LR | RR |
| 112 | 136 | 139 | 139 | 137 | 103 |
| 120 | 143 | 138 | 129 | 122 | 99 |
To be honest, it was hard to glean much from the day. It was fun to be back out. The various
differences sure seemed small, but I settled on 200/400 with no Nik bar. The front Nik bar is pretty
much a huge PITA anyway, so if I need to stiffen up in the future, I'll just add some spring back to the front of the car.
Even at pretty high ride heights, I was having issues with bottoming at Coors at the following BMW event, so I think I'll probably need to stick to the
250/400 combo for now.
