:. Racing .:. 2010 Goals
Results:
It's become a bit of a tradition for me to try and write down some goals for the upcoming season, in order to have a benchmark to see how I did at the end of the year. Didn't quite
manage it for 2009, but I'd say that developing a new car and running my first national races most likely would have been on there. Kerblammo'ing two engines probably would not have been.
So, for 2010:
- Qualify For, and go to Runoffs: It became a mid-season goal of mine in 2009, but due to engine blowups, I only completed 3 national races in 2009. For 2010, I'd like
to qualify for Runoffs, and go to the big show. As an unofficial sub-goal, I'd like to win a few more national races too, to maybe get some more tires! As a further unofficial sub-goal,
I'd like to finish top 10 if I go, and would be beyond ecstatic to finish in the top 5. Maybe I'll just be happy not to stack up the car at that track!
- Left-Foot Braking: I've long been aware that my gas-to-brake transition is quite slow, especially on bumpy tracks where I come off the throttle sooner than I should have
to, to make sure my foot finds the brake pedal in time. Based on how successful Paul Leonard was at changing to LFB technique this year, even with clutchless downshifting and no other electronics,
I'm going to try this too, in order to maximize my braking performance. I am not terribly good on the brakes, with a tendency to lock up tires, so perhaps I can train my left foot to be
smarter than my right one. Besides, Stecher says I'm a namby-pamby driver for using the clutch ;-)
- Improve My Setup Knowledge: In 2009, I spent a lot of time and money throwing new parts at the car. Absolutely they helped it go faster, so not like those didn't help, but my
tuning of the car was in a fairly limited scope, springs, bump damping, wing angles and dive planes. I'd like to continue to play with bump and rebound, run through wing angles etc, basically,
improve my range of tuning abilities by running the car through its range of adjustment to see what I can learn.
